Biography
Hip Drop originally started in 2000 in Rennes, France as a New Orleans' style marching band (with two drummers, tuba and banjo), and transformed in 2006 into an astounding soul/funk combo. Still teaming up with the incredibly electrifying tuba player, the band was fronted by a passionate singer soaked with soul music and jam packed with jazz.
HIP DROP's first Demo-CD in 2003 got the attention of the famous French winter festival the "Rencontres Trans Musicales". They took off on the promotional tour before the event kicked off, and closed the adventure with an explosive gig on one of the festival's stages…
By then, their new songs required they finally change to an electric guitar and a regular drumkit. Also adding backing vocals, HIP DROP took the way they wrote tunes to a new level under the direction of Henri Jégou, taking up the arranger chair. In 2005, HIP DROP released a 5-track EP and embarked on a series of shows in Brittany (France) and around, which built them a solid reputation as an electrifying live act.
From the beginning of 2006, a new line-up now including a keyboard player started working on brand new songs which unraveled a new sound and put the vocals in the forefront. These tunes were recorded in 2006 to form HIP DROP's first album: "Boîte noire", which was released independently in February 2008.
After a few successful shows in western France in 2008, economical as well as internal difficulties led to the end of HIP DROP's activities in 2009.
