Biography
Gerard Damien Long, better known by his stage name Jerry (formerly Hodgy Beats), is an American rapper, producer, and songwriter from Pasadena, California. He first gained widespread recognition as a founding member of the hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA), alongside Tyler, The Creator, Left Brain, and others. Within the collective, he formed two notable duos: MellowHype with producer Left Brain, and MellowHigh with rapper Domo Genesis and Left Brain as producer.
As a solo artist, Jerry made his debut with the Dena Tape mixtape in 2009, which showcased his raw lyrical talent and West Coast flavor. He followed it up with The Dena Tape 2 in 2015, hosted by Don Cannon, continuing his laid-back delivery and gritty lyrical themes. In between, he released two acclaimed EPs — Untitled (2012) and Untitled 2 (2013) — both celebrated for their introspective tone and abstract production.
In 2016, Hodgy released his first official studio album, Fireplace: TheNotTheOtherSide, under Columbia Records. The album included appearances from artists such as Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and was noted for blending psychedelic elements with introspective themes and alternative production choices, setting him apart from his Odd Future peers.
After several years of relative silence, in 2022 he returned with the single “Into Someone” and an EP titled Entitled, where he began pivoting into a more vulnerable and soulful sound. In 2023, he officially rebranded himself as Jerry, marking a creative rebirth. This shift culminated in the release of his sophomore album, Lovemesooner, in February 2024. The 18-track project features production and instrumentation by Leland Whitty and Chester Hansen of BADBADNOTGOOD, as well as contributions from JD. REID. The album presents Jerry as more mature, emotionally present, and musically expansive, diving into themes of fatherhood, healing, spirituality, and love.
In his personal life, Jerry was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and is of Jamaican, Fijian, and Filipino descent. At the age of nine, he moved to California with his mother and sister. He is the father of three children, two of whom he shares with Canadian pop singer Nelly Furtado. After completing a rehabilitation program in 2020, Jerry relocated to Toronto, Canada, where he currently lives and continues to create music. His new label imprint and creative platform, Poortrait, represents a shift toward independence and holistic artistry.
In early 2025, Jerry sparked buzz across social media after posting a cryptic Instagram story showing text exchanges with Tyler, The Creator, accompanied by the classic acronym “OFWGKTAFL.” While no official Odd Future reunion has been confirmed, fans are hopeful about a new era of collaboration between its original members.
