- Reuben Sawyer
Doom/pop performed by Reuben Sawyer and Morgan Enos.
Hollow Sunshine hail from California. The duo of musicians create a style of music that can only be described as doom-laden garage pop noise. Musically, the guitars are crunchy and low and as the rhythm plods along, the vocals bring it all up with pop sensibility that is not lost on the listener. It’s as if the 90's shoegaze bands discovered sludge metal and played with an ambient mentality.
Hollow Sunshine is comprised of vocalist Morgan Enos and guitarist/songwriter Reuben Sawyer. Sawyer is well-known in the underground for his work as visual artist under the Rainbath Visual moniker. He has done work for bands like Deafheaven, Chelsea Wolf, Inter Arma, just to name a few. In 2013 the band released their debut LP, Held Above, via Robotic Empire. The LP and Hollow Sunshine‘s music are described as existing “within a delicate balance between blown out sludge, narcotic drone and pop sensibilities. Yet this contrast between heaviness and catchiness, with melodic vocals providing a calm and consistent drift throughout, sets Hollow Sunshine well apart from contemporaries.” And that is pretty dead-on.
