Biography

Drawing together the disaparate influences of mid-West indie rock and
guitar-driven post-rock, Hopewood are a vital new musical experience. Fusing
chiming, melodic guitar lines with a churning rhythm section and heartfelt
vocals, the band's music lulls the listener with its quiet and lush
instrumental passages, before exploding with cathartic punk rock abandon.

Formed in December 2004, the band spent months crafting complex instrumental
soundscapes, before the addition of vocalist Tom Jackson gave the band a
focus around which its often lengthy compositions could be based. This
line-up, coprising Richard Allen and Mark Vincent Bussey on guitar, Daniel
Baker on bass and Lars Marcus Jackson on drums, in addition to Tom's
passionate vocals, played a number of gigs around the country, being
well-received for its mesmeric live performance.

With the appointment in November 2005 of Sarah, Alice and Anna, on cello,
viola and violin respectively, their sound acquired an additional depth and
texture; the reflective beauty of the more mellow moments was accentuated,
and the wall-of-sound sonic explosions of the crescendoes were enhanced.

The band has since been signed to respected American label Goodcore Records,
which recently put out their first EP, and embarked on a short UK tour. They
have marked themselves as a band to watch in the vibrant underground rock
scene, and seem poised to render themselves an important and respected band
on a much larger scale. They are band which is impossible, and inadvisable,
to ignore.
