Biography
„Ilža” is Latvian folklore group from Latgale, the Eastern part of Latvia. The folklore group is founded in 1990. The group “Ilža” took its name from a river that runs through Cibla, a little town near Ludza, which is located in Latgale.
They are singing in Latgalian, Latgale’s culture differs from the rest of Latvia as it historically has been a Catholic dominated region and till nowadays has preserved a particular dialect and a rich heritage – songs, dances and traditions.
Musical instruments: accordion, zither, violin, blockflute, drum and other pusatile instruments.
