Biography
Inja is a UK MC and host originating from Luton and based in Cambridge. His work spans a variety of genres including hiphop, grime, drum n bass and dubstep (hipbassgrimestep) with influences from reggae to drum n bass, dancehall, soul, funk, grime and hip hop.
As well as stringing a series of hiphop releases on his homegrown label IN Records, Inja has been hosting as part of the BBC Asian Network tour 2007/8/9 and as resident host MC at Warning and Stink Like Sock since 2000, two of the UK’s biggest and longest running drum n bass and dubstep nights. Here, he has been working alongside DJs and MCs such as Benga, Plastician, Skream, GQ, Andy C, Dynamite MC, Shy FX, Comix, Logistics, Nu Tone, Dj Hype and Alex Perez. Since 2010, he has also been working as host MC with Logistics, Breakage and Nu Tone at Emma Ents, Cambridge University’s biggest club night and since 2007 at Dubstep nights Bassbox and with Pirate Sessions across the UK and to as far as Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro dubstep and drum n bass scene scene.
In 2009 Inja became the official host of the DMC Uk and World Championships. Both as host and performer, he showcased a solo set at the World Finals, Indigo O2, backed by the World Supremacy Champion Dj Switch, and with Skinnyman, at the UK finals. Since then he has been hosting for the Major Laser Soundsystem, for house /garage / bassline DJ Elvis 1990 and as the official host / MC accompanying Beardyman and Jungle Drummer on the exceptional ‘Where’s the Dj’ live freestyle show.
In terms of hip hop, Inja showcases live as a solo act, as well as as part of the Taskforce family and one part of duo ‘The Skuff and Inja Show’, In 2009, the latter’s ‘show stopping powers’ received 4 star ratings in Metro. Inja has also been touring with Taskforce across the UK and Europe since 2005, most recently with Chester P as the only support act of Jamie T’s UK tour. In 2009/10 he has been working with Foreign Beggars, Kaiser, Skinnyman, Fallacy and Phi Life Cypher, both in live performances and solo releases, the latest of which ‘Hat Low EP’, featuring Skinnyman and Fallacy, has been featured on MTV Base, MTV Hits / Europe, BBC 1 Extra, Radio 1, Kiss FM, amongst many others.
Inja’s talent, energy and exceptional lyricism, both in live performance and releases have entitled him a ‘lyrical wizard’ (IDj Magazine), with emcee skills ‘faster than a speeding bullet’ (HipHop Connection) with his most recent album 'The Skuff and Inja Show' displaying ‘forays into dancehall, electronica, vintage funk and contemporary folk’ (Metro).
