Biography
Based in the rural West Midands of England, ISOKON FLATS is the solo project of Mark Walton who is part of the INVERTED EAR MUSIC micro-label collective, also recording more experimental and freeform material with Derek Miles as SHUDDERMEN. Collaborates too with unclejim and Conrad McQueen as CIRCLE OF EARS.
Mark previously played with experimental Oxford duo THE INSTITUTION (with Derek Miles) between 1981 - 1985, and solo as DOUBLE SUMMERTIME until 1989. 13 tracks recorded at home between 1989 - 2005 with a cassette tape portastudio appeared on the 2006 ISOKON FLATS "One Star Awake" (IEM001) album.
Drawing on a wide range of influences, Mark's music moves between many styles, ranging through avant-garde, Motorik, soundtrack, experimental, indie, dub and psychedelic pop. One of his other projects, FLOWERBANJO, covers his folk and blues work.
New album, "Domesday Mansion", is currently being recorded, with first track "Motorway Ghosts" already completed.
