Biography
Iveria (Cyrillic: Иверия) was a Soviet-Georgian ensemble formed in 1968. Their name in Georgian script is ივერია (Iveria) or ვია ივერია (VIA Iveria; "VIA" is an abreviation for Vocal Instrumentalis Ansamblis or Vocal Instrumental Ensemble, which was basically the synonym for pop groups in the Soviet communist states throughout the 70s).
They released at least eight albums on the Melodiya label from the mid 1970s to the late 1980s. The band was led by Alexander Basilaia (ალექსანდრე ბასილაია; 1942 – 2009). The other members were David Abuladze, Teimuraz Tsiklauri (თეიმურაზ წიკლაური) and Temur Kvitelashvili (თემურ ყვითელაშვილი).
