The very existence of Jah Division, who play dub versions of Joy Division tunes, had been merely a rumor up until the announcement of this show, an ides of March collaboration between the Twisted Ones and ToddP. One knew one was in for some serious dub when one arrived to observe there was no PA system involved. There was a bit of a wait for the drummer to show, amply filled by a clutch of DJ's playing soul and reggae including a seriously funkin' set from Twisted One Fitz himself. I took the opportunity to ask the keyboard player about the band. He told me that it was basically a joke project - he had bought some peculiar keyboard about a year before and discovered that it had that JoyDiv sound and so, at a jam, he and pals were messing about on their tunes. Fitz had happened by and, always looking for a good twist, gone overboard for it. So they had eventually recorded some tracks (unreleased). There the story stops until a couple of weeks ago and a chance drunken encounter between he and Fitz in which, god help him, he had agreed to do the show. For which there was a healthy turn out, including this true JoyDiv fan. Eventually the drummer showed and the band played 3 tunes, extended improvs as you might imagine. First came 'Isolation Dub', followed by 'Heart & Soul Dub' and then, after a tentative start, 'Dub Will Tear Us Apart'.
