I was fortunate to have seen JT many times , most early times were in small club type venues . Although his voice and "presence" seems to have sweetened w/ age (subjective of course) , at this point I'm compelled to note that it's been awhile (last caught with Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band) . As for my initial JT experience ... I drifted into a record / head-shop and asked the counter dude "What's new & good ?" . His reply was "Check this dude out ; the Beatles found him in a mental hospital , and man , but he's far , far freak'in out !" . Talk about an understatement .

What a talent ! The only thing that I regret is the sad fact that I'd only seen J.T. three times (The first was a front row seat for $3,25 .) Even forty plus years on , I can vividly remember my first J.T. vinyl - Walked into an "underground" record store and asked the counter dude , "Whadz new ?" . "Check this guy out ; the Beatles found him in an insane asylum .... Outa sight !" Well , that was probably '68 ( ? ) and the emphasis on institutionalisation was a major "So what?" , but it was apparent that the man's voice was just so uniquely solid , sweet , and truly sincere . Despite the "perfect pitch" thing , I can't , sing worth a darn , but if I could choose one voice to sing my thoughts , that voice would likely be borrowed from J.T. . And flipping into "tangential mode" , my dear spouse / best friend Janice and I don't have a heck of allot in common . One thing that we do share , however , is a fondness for Mr. J.T. ... we both could listen all day ! (And Thanks CAT , again)

My father worked with James for many years. I had the blessing of growing up to his music that revolutionized acoustic music and my soul. I love J.T. Such a classic voice. Anytime a song of his is playing, even before he sings, you know it's him. He just owns it with such character... and what a great guy, too.
