Biography
Jersey Shore is a reality television series on MTV that follows eight housemates spending their summers together, in the first season at the Jersey Shore, and the second at Miami Beach. The third season is back at the Jersey Shore. The first season was filmed in August 2009 in a summer share in Seaside Heights but was also filmed in other towns such as Toms River, Neptune, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The show debuted amid large amounts of controversy regarding the use of the words "Guido/Guidette," portrayals of Italian-American stereotypes, and scrutiny from locals because the cast members were not residents of the area.
There is a lot of resentment towards the show from both locals and natural born Italians. Although it was true that these people lived like this before the show aired, they were encouraging a bad image of both people from New Jersey and Italians.
Guido originally meant a full italian, and now the term has been recoined to mean someone who drinks, tans, gels their hair, and is, essentially, an italian pimp.
