This is just going down in time as one of the all time greats. How does she do it? She's so in tune with the spirit or, whatever it is that opens the pathways to this higher level of musical experience, or whatever you want to call it.

this song helped me so much at a certain time in my life that in 2020 i tattooed "stand brave, life-liver." with a boat and the river of time flowing underneath it ❤️

"But stand brave, life-liver, bleeding out your days in the river of time. Stand brave: time moves both ways... in the nullifying, defeating, negating, repeating joy of life" <3

idk if I get exactly what you meant here, still wanted to weigh in to say though I love divers and though I love making fun of divers slanderes, peter newsom on drums is WACK. it's the same with leaving the city.. gorgeous song, and then those fucking drums on the chorus. that shit stank. I hope he reads this

Everything in this thread is wrong. On Divers I am willing to allow more room for personal taste, but every single instance of percussion on HOOM is tasteful and integral to the experience of the song. Easy, the title track, good intentions paving company, baby birch, in california, occident, soft as chalk, autumn, kingfisher, does not suffice.. it’s more than half the songs on the record for heaven’s sake. I am not going to let you get away with claiming that any one of those songs would be better if you removed the percussion. I’m just not. I won’t stand for it.

i will agree that “have one on me” is good! personally i find the drums distracting in the majority of those though, and prefer the solo versions where they exist. the harp is naturally percussive enough for me and the drum-less songs like “no provenance” and “you and me, bess” have just as strong and memorable a rhythm as the ones with the drum set imo. i get why the drums are there, but i don’t like it when they border on sound fx like “in california” and “sapokanikan”

Where is her outstanding achievement award for this album/her discography? She’s one of the few truly talented and original artists left.

Up, up , up, until...transcendent and disappears. Leaving behind the songs of birds.
