Biography

Joby Alan Bond (born February 19, 2003), known professionally as Joby Bond, is an English singer, songwriter, performer and artist. Born in Charlton, London into a musical and creative family, Bond started training and performing in musical theatre at age 5. Despite enjoying it, he discovered that he didn’t have the same passion for drama and dance as he did for music, and so stopped attending musical theatre school in 2017. Regardless of this, he often credits his unique performance style to studying musical theatre for 9 years. Bond started writing songs at age 9. In 2018 and 2019, he self-recorded and released some of his first songs as demos through online music services and CDs he gave to friends and family.
He released 2 EPs (‘Space Dial’ and ‘09:11:’18’) and 2 Mixtapes in 2018 (‘Joby’ and ‘Side One’). In 2019, Bond carried on with the demo projects, releasing the mixtapes ‘Anti-Love’ and ‘The Rhythm Of Life’ respectively. During this time Joby attended Access Creative College in Hoxton, London, where he met frequent collaborator Théo Battistel. They became close friends and have since worked on projects and performed together. In October 2019, Bond removed his entire demo output from the internet feeling they sounded premature and outdated. On January 9, 2020, Bond released his debut album, ‘Give Up’. It compiled songs that had been written as early as 2017. He released the singles ‘Wine And Roses’ and ‘Give Up’ to help promote the album. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Bond wrote and recorded his EP, ‘str8, white trash x’ which he released May 20, 2020. He released ‘000 (feat. The48thFloor)’ and a remix by Pardiel of ‘Uncertainty (Good 4 Me)’ as singles. ‘000’ was one of the first songs Bond ever wrote, written in 2016, he reworked it specifically for this project. Bond then took a short hiatus from releasing music until January 28, 2021 when he released the single ‘OUT HERE 2NIGHT’. Inspired by 80s synth pop and Vaporwave, the track included extreme gated reverb and early Madonna-esc synths alongside Bond’s distinctive vocals. A short film form music video accompanied the single. The song was intended as the lead single from his second album, ‘BALLOONS’, which was slated for a May 8, 2021 release but Bond abandoned after a close suicide attempt in January which changed Bond’s musical narrative and life.
Joby Bond and Théo Battistel wrote and recorded their track ‘Fire and Rain’ in March 2021, which they released on May 26, 2021. The track is acoustic and soulful, a stark difference to the sound of Bond’s prior material. On June 17, 2021, Bond released a remix of ‘Fire And Rain’ by Cameron Haynes (previously known as VoltR!P). In October 2021, Bond deleted ‘Give Up’, ‘str8, white trash x’, and ‘OUT HERE 2NIGHT’ from his discography once again feeling that they misrepresented him artistically after the suicide attempt. Bond is yet to release a new project but is still active in performing and posting to social media. Bond has been writing for his new project for the last 3 years.
