Biography
Johanna grew up singing in a church choir. She loves dancing. She has a 5 piece band based in New York City. She writes, records and performs kick-ass soul rock.
Her lyrics are about times that she screwed up or broke up, and the progressions and rhythms come from the kind of music she likes: rock, dance and soul. Laguna Beach on MTV recently featured 2 of her songs 'Nothing I Would Change' and 'I'm Not Perfect'
She LOVES performing! It's the only time that she feels like, "yeah, I'm getting it right!"
Here's what the Village Voice wrote about her 4/20: "This local gals Im Not Perfect is a better and bouncier Sheryl Crow album than Sheryls managed in a while: a little-opener-that-could called My Big O (I Can), a Misery thats not miserable at all, a tap-dancey alley-cat-rhythmed Rickie Lee or Norah Jones jazzed title cut, a bartender ode, Steve Tyler vocal inflections. And through it all, a bassist and drummer bop out full-on, sometimes Diddleyfied, 60s bubblegum soul beats. Cool!"
