Johnny Foreigner is an indie rock band from Digbeth, Birmingham. As of 2012, the current line-up consists of guitarists Alexei Berrow and Lewes Herriot, bassist Kelly Parker (née Southern) and drummer Junior Elvis Washington Laidley.

Before the band formed in late 2005, Berrow played in various other projects including Panda Love Unit, and Parker played in Twist and Baxxter.

The band formed with the prototype of "a country band with pretensions", with Daniel Boyle on bass. Boyle left the band to attend university. Before Boyle left, the band released 'We Left You Sleeping And Gone Now'.

The band signed with Best Before Records in the Autumn of 2007, and soon after released their EP Arcs Across The City. They released a few more singles throughout 2008 (including well-known tracks such as Eyes Wide Terrified - before releasing their debut album 'Waited Up 'til It Was Light' in June of 2008.

The band released their second album 'Grace and the Bigger Picture' in late 2009, after the release of singles Feels Like Summer and Criminals. This album was recorded in Brooklyn. A third single - Every Cloakroom Ever was released after the album.

The band left Best Before in September 2010, releasing their first EP with current label Alcopop! in 2010. They released their third album 'Johnny Foreigner vs Everything' in late 2011, and a double vinyl LP version of it was released in Summer 2012.

In 2012, the band released their third non-album EP, 'NAMES' - their first release after adding fourth member Lewes earlier in 2012. They released their fourth album 'You Can Do Better' in the early Spring of 2014, and later that year Alexei and Junior formed yr poetry (a merger of their solo projects Yr Friends and Fridge Poetry).

In 2016, the band released 'Mono No Aware', their final album before their hiatus, as well as releasing singles If You Can't Be Honest, Be Awesome, Flooding (which doesn't feature on the album) and 'The X and the O EP, which features two new tracks, 'The X and the O' from Mono No Aware, and a remake of Palace Fires from the Criminals single.

In 2022, the band re-started, with studio sessions booked that ended up resulting in 2024 album 'How To Be Hopeful. The album was released with two accompanying EPs, one of which is only available on Bandcamp. The band also released a Christmas single in December of 2024.
