Biography
José or Joseph Amiguet, was a Catalan composer and chapel master born in Tarrasa (province of Barcelona) around 1703 to 1705.
After the death of maestro Clemente Barrachina at the beginning of 1728, the position of chapel master of the Albarracín Cathedral became vacant. Oppositions to the chapel magisterium were called for the first half of May of that same year, 1728, being the examiners, Agustín Mesa, organist of Albarracín and Luís Pastor, master of the chapel of Teruel. We recommended the name of José Amiguet: "that Joseph Amiguet, a native of Tarrasa, was the most skilled and suitable of those who had participated " Amiguet took office on October 11, 1728 and entered the cathedral of Albarracín without having been ordained. On November 2 of that year, the chapter acts record "that with respect to the fact that the Magisterium of the Chapel is normal, that Joseph Amiguet is perpetuated with the distributions to which he is admitted, agreeing with the Cabildo in which they are demanded in perpetual benefit, so that he can be promoted to the sacred orders." Among the various responsibilities of the chapel master, Amiguet also copied the musical manuscripts of the church. In Albarracín he also composed some polycorial works.
At the end of 1731, he held the oppositions for chapel master of Tortosa, moving to the magisterium of the Cathedral of Tortosa that same year.
In 1737 he applied for the oppositions for the magisterium of the Cathedral of Lleida. Antonio Sala, singer of the music chapel of the metropolitan area of Lleida; Josep Caracoler, organist and master of chapel of the Collegiate Church of Tremp and Amiguet, ciolinist and master of chapel of the Cathedral of Tortosa, appeared. The position was granted to Antonio Sala.
Three of his psalms are preserved in the archive of the Albarracín cathedral.
