Biography
Atlanta based singer/songwriter/guitarist Julian Tillery's music is a blend of rock, pop, soul and alternative. Julian was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Glassboro, NJ. The busy college town heavily influenced his musical taste. It was there, in Glassboro, that he was exposed to various styles of music. He began to study piano at age 5 and violin at age 6. On his 17th birthday, his parents gave him a guitar and he began to craft his own songs.
He began his music career as one third of the eclectic rock unit Us!, an acoustic band that included Okorie Johnson on cello and John Reed on drums. The band tour with the Groovement/Earthseed Collective, the same neo-soul imprint that spawned the likes of singers India.Arie, Donnie, and bassist Khari Simmons, they performed in Atlanta and other major cities.
When the members of the Groovement/Earthseed Collective disbanded, Julian went on to play guitar for "Mama's Moonshine", featuring Erik "Soul Vision" Harris and Anjenai "Blackrose" Green. It was this experience that gave Julian the courage to strike out on his own and start a solo career. "I really enjoyed playing out and being in the studio with Mama's Moonshine. I just knew that I had a story to tell and I was lucky enough to have worked with people that believe that I could." He would go on to cut a demo through Fulton Yard Unlimited, the production team behind Mama's Moonshine. The demo was considered by a few major labels, but nothing materialized. "I was really down at first, then I decided that if this was something that I really wanted, I needed to give it all that I've got. “ He went on to start JETSound Productions and "The Ocean on Mars" is his first independent release.
