Biography
Consisting of some of the most respected and versatile musicians in Orlando, Junkierush combines elements of hard rock, funk, reggae and world music with a unique sound that is all their own.
Junkierush was formed in the summer of 2000 by guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Bobby Koelble, a former member of the seminal metal band Death (appearing on the release "Symbolic"). The debut CD "Junkierush" was released in fall 2000 with the lineup of Koelble, Chris Charles (sax) Aaron O'Riley (bass) and Matt Hughen (drums). After it's release, the band was interestingly voted "Best Funk Band 2002" by the readers of Orlando Weekly Magazine.
"Junkierush II" was released in winter 2003 with the lineup consisting of Koelble, O'Riley, Abdias Garcia (drums/vocals) and Ito Colon (percussion). The CD was hailed by local music writers and featured some of Orlando's best musicians as guest artists, including Grammy-nominated jazz legend Sam Rivers (Koelble is also a member of his quintet). "Live" was recorded on September 11, 2005 in front of a sold-out crowd at Orlando's premiere night club, the Social. It showcases the band's uncanny ability to maintain the highest level of groove and musicianship in the context of Koelble's memorable songwriting.
The name "Junkierush" refers the powerful, addictive effect of music, something we all can attest to. Since it's inception, the band has performed in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and as far up the east coast as New York, and has independently sold over 7500 CDs.
The band currently consists of Koelble, Matt Gallagher (bass/vocals), Thatcher (drums) and Colon. Already a household name in Central Florida, Junkierush hope to bring their one-of-a-kind sound to the rest of the world. For booking and more information, call (407) 629-8268 .
