Biography

Kansan Kaleigh Glanton grew up watching her father play classical guitar and at the age of four she expressed interest in playing guitar also. Of course dad jumped at the opportunity to share his love for the music that had taken him around the world in international competition and unique performances. Howard Glanton watched his daughter’s talent grow beyond proficient to excellence. He made sure she was able to get lessons and attend workshops from distinguished greats like Ricordo Cobo, Dimitri Illorionov, and Lily Afsar. Five years ago, at the age of 15, Kaleigh literally discovered her voice. All of a sudden her music shifted from complex melodic and polyphonic textile on guitar to using vocal tonality and rhythm to chronicle life.

“One day I was pulling songs off the internet to learn the guitar parts; it was something I did for fun. Then I started singing along with the songs. It’s crazy that I never sang to music before,”Kaleigh admits. “Now I see myself as a singer first. I enjoy performing for people to hear me sing. At first, I think my dad was a bit disappointed when I said I didn’t want to pursue classical music any further. Then when he heard me sing, he encouraged me to develop my talent.”

“I started out writing songs about love and breaking up, you know - the typical, but now that my life is moving forward and the real world is quickly approaching I have so much more to say. The idea of being able to spend more time writing songs and playing music is so exciting to me.”

“I describe my music as an indie folk sound but honestly,” she continues, “I feel so free to explore different variations of that. I know I’m going to continue growing as a person and so will my art. I’m kind of afraid of this business of music but, I’m determined to make it as an artist, and I have been putting together a great team to help me.”

Over the past four years, the 20 year old has attracted an ever-growing fan base. Kaleigh’s music has gained her performance opportunities just because someone heard her voice and had to have her for their event. Doors have been opened as she easily conquered contests throughout Kansas.

“I’m just starting out. I want people to hear me; that’s why I have loved entering these contests because it really gets my name out. I want people to hear something new and sometimes they won’t just come and check out a new act. What I’ve found at every performance is that you never know who is in the audience. Every show is my greatest performance. Even when I do cover songs I want it to be a new experience so I give it a little bit of me and the way I see things. You know, sometimes I get so in to my own songs that I will change the words a little bit to reflect what’s going on with me at that moment. I want some of my songs to make you cry and some to make you smile. I always I want it to be organic and I always want it to be me.”
