Biography

Kat Edwards is a Canberra-born, Hobart-raised now based out of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Performing at her first open mic at just 13 years old in 2013, Edwards first began attracting serious attention on the Hobart music scene in 2016. Through a steady schedule of busking, gigs, and self-released recordings, Kat quickly established herself as a signficant presence in the south-east Tasmanian musical community.

2021 was a landmark year in the young performer's career so far, signing to BMG Australia and being named in numerous high-profile lists of artists to watch in the year to come.

That next year in 2022, Edwards released her seven-track EP Best Bad News to wide acclaim. This release and its reception saw the artist secure supporting slots for numerous local and international names, including Dodie, Clinton Kane, Stella Donnelly, Paul Kelly and Boy and Bear.

Edwards' sound has evolved from the solo acoustic and singer-songwriter work of her teen years, moving into the realm of slick and polished that hasn't lost any of its confessional edge.

Working alongside ARIA award-winning producer Dylan Nash, the follow-up to Best Bad News was recorded and mostly written in London following the EP's release. Originally scheduled for a 2023 release, the new record is expected to be released sometime in 2024.
