Biography
After 11 years as University Organist and Lecturer in Organ, Piano and Fortepiano at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, Kemp English has decided to hang up his academic gown and concentrate on an increasingly hectic performing and recording career. Since emigrating to New Zealand in 1994 Kemp has firmly established himself on the Australasian concert scene. Moreover, his three solo CDs ‘Kemp English at the Fortepiano’, ‘Stormin’ Norma’ and ‘Stormin Norma 2’ (at the Dunedin Town Hall organ) have all met with wide-spread critical acclaim, the first two discs being nominated for ‘Best Classical Album’ in the 2004 NZ Music Awards. His CDs feature regularly on New Zealand, Australian and more recently UK Radio. Kemp is also much in demand as a collaborative pianist, relishing the opportunity to work in a diverse array of styles and genres. His disc Melodie with violinist Robin Wilson was released in Australia on the Decca label by Universal Music in June 2005. Their second disc together is due out in 2007. Kemp will be touring New Zealand and Australia yet again in 2007 and then heading for the concert centres of the UK and Europe in 2009.
