Biography

In November of 2010, he released his second full length LP called “One in Ten” on Copper Mind Records. Says Brawley, “My life has been relatively drama free for the past few years, so I’ve had to draw inspiration from other places - it really forced me to approach the writing process differently, which in turn produced a different sound to this record.” The ten song collection expands on the ambient acoustic sound of his first release, 2007’s “Waltzing on Eggshells.” Listeners will immediately notice the addition of electric guitar, drum loops, saxophone, violin, and even pipe organ. “Being a music major at UNCC exposed me to all these fantastic styles of music and ways of singing and playing I had never considered before,” says Brawley. “I really spent a lot of time focusing on adding specific textures to best bring out each song’s emotion.”
Kevin was handpicked by the directors of the independent film “Call Center” to write and compose the film’s theme song and entire underscore. Since the film’s release, his music has been featured at film festivals all over the country and around the world.
Since relocating to North Carolina with his wife and daughter, Kevin has become a regular performer in the greater Charlotte area the old fashioned way – by working hard, playing often, and giving audiences a memorable show each night. Armed with a full arsenal of vintage and state of the art effects, his approach to live music is refreshing. “I never let the technology get in the way of the song,” explains Brawley, “but I do try and take things as far as I can in a live setting. There’s only so much ‘guy with a guitar who sings’ someone can take. I try and offer something a bit left of center.”
No stranger to the business, Kevin has been writing, recording, and performing music for the last 18 years. He has headlined many impressive venues, including the House of Blues, Peabody’s, the Odeon, Nelson Ledges, and the world famous Cleveland Agora. He has also participated twice in the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX.
Says Kevin, “How could you not enjoy playing music for a living? I think it’s that enjoyment, and just a good feeling that comes across when I play.” No slouch on his instrument, Kevin has studied guitar, saxophone, and piano with some of Ohio’s foremost jazz musicians. He has also studied voice under world renowned opera performers. But it is not technicality alone he brings to a performance, it is his ability to connect with an audience and convey a unique and intense energy that sets him apart from many other acoustic acts.
