A group of young women specialising in traditional playing and singing of Latvian folksongs. Founded in 1999.
Lineup: Ruta Stepiņa, Laima Jansone, Dagnija Pārupe, Ieva Tihovska, Elza Trizna.
Album "LĀCENES UN KAZENES" (Cloudberries and Blackberries) or (she-bears and she-goats) issued in 2007 under label "Lauska".
This album includes wedding and marriage songs from all regions of Latvia. The songs describe the different, sometimes very ancient rituals of a marriage, like steeling the bride from her parents’ home, or negotiating a price for the future wife. But the most beautiful songs are about the individual feelings, when a young man sets off to find his future wife or the feelings of the bride ready to become a wife, about leaving her parents home and going to a foreign place. There are also some mythological songs, as the connection to the sacral world is particularly important at turning points in life.
