The decision of turning this band into an Einar Solberg centered one and his decision of making solo stuff was the death of this band.

Almost two years later I have come to appreciate Aphelion more as a collection of songs that I can pick and listen to and have fun rather than an album that you could just put on and listen from start to finish like you could do with previous ones. As longs as they continue to write such emotional bangers as On Hold I will be on board with the band.

its interesting to me how the 2016 live release really felt like something special, now the 2022 one seems like a way to just get more vinyl out there because these have been on streaming for 3 months and seem to just be the songs they were "guaranteed" to play at every show and were coincidentally recorded

If the single of Einars solo album is any indication, then it was a nice ride. But Leprous might try to pull a Metallica. Aphelion might be their black album. If I'm right, it'll be sad, but they peaked at Congregation anyway. Pitfalls is good though (way better live). Next album has a high possibility of being a POS.

I wouldn't really worry at this stage. Leprous seems to slowly move away from metal with each subsequent release but, at the same time, solo albums are usually a way for individual band members to experiment with and release music from other genre styles without directly attaching it to the band's "brand." A bit of prog pop wouldn't necessarily be the worst thing on a Leprous album either...

all the Ishahn feautured songs is tagged with him now on Spotify... also The Architect by Haken now tags Einar. wonder if his new solo effort sorted out all the featured artists on InsideOut lol

Muse became a comedy band and the Norwegians kicked their asses on their own field of pomp pop

I agree tho muse haven't been good since 2009 or so, but the last few leprous albums haven't been good either. They sound like a slightly progressive imagine dragons now lol

so many epic bands get compared to Imagine Dragons idk. Must be good to sound like Imagine Dragons.

Leprous was paying homage to Imagine Dragons as far back as 2015, when they referenced "Radioactive" in their song "Moon." Don't try to convince me otherwise.

They kicked ass in Munich on their 20th Anniversary Tour. Can't wait to see them again in 2023.

The last couple albums have not done much for me, but Aphelion is proving to be quite excellent. While obviously as not as heavy as the band was in their first 10 years, the song writing is absolutely phenomenal

maybe except "malina", which lacks the suspense and atmospheric density (and intelligent songwriting) of all their other works, imo (I also have my problems with "tall poppy syndrome", tbh. ) . it still has some great songs, however. I regard it as an album of transition. I love this band so much...

I'm really struggling to understand how people call their most formulaic album as "their best".

They're not formulaic, they're well written songs, that's probably why. More concise well written with lots of details for re listens. Taken over my favourite from Coal

After taking a hiatus from listening to these guys, I'm once again blown away by how good Einar's vocals are. Why did I deprive myself of this?! Also, Aphelion is beautiful, flows nicely (with enough variation), and contains some delicious hooks.

Aphelion is a work of art. Everything I hoped for out of the next Leprous album. Absolutely perfect.

My only complaint about Aphelion is that I wanted Silhouette to be at least 2 minutes longer than it is. But that aside, what a fantastic album.

If you ask me the previous album was much weaker. At least on this album each song is interesting to listen to on it's own right. Maybe not the best album for Front to back listening though.

"Wish that other members besides Einar also take part in songwriting. " Funny you say that since "The Congregation" is the album mostly written by Einar. He also admitted that the last two albums were made by the whole band, not to mention "Nightime Disguise" created during livestream with fans.

Did I say anything about Congregation? There's nothing wrong about most of the songs being written by Einar if they are good it's just that the songs on the new album all sound same-y and lacking structural variety as if written by a single person, and if they were written by the whole band, then it's my bad, just doesn't feel like it.

Maybe that's how good at writing as a band, you have a cohesive album rather than songs that feel like they were written by different people? Baards drumming is some of the most complex on the last albums in my opinion, he is showing so many subtleties and I can imagine these songs were great fun for him as he could do nearly anything.

Thank God for Leprous. My waning love for new releases in progressive rock/metal music scene is sustained only by their recent outpout . Back in 2006, I heard Opeth: Ghost Reveries the first time, and they immediately became my favorite band. But Heritage, and each subsequent Opeth album, has disappointed me immensely. I first discovered Leprous in 2013 after Coal came out. Game changer. I know Leprous is in no way a carbon-copy of Opeth, but it scratched that melancholy-prog-melodic-experimental-metal itch that I needed scratched so badly. Fast forward to 2021: Leprous is my favorite band, and Pitfalls is in my top ten favorite albums of all time. That album has been the best musical therapy I've ever received. And today, we get Aphelion. Fuck yeah.
