From 2013 Liability are welcoming back their original bassist, Dave Burrells, as well as Max Howells on Cajon drum. In addition to these two, more people are to be added soon including mandolin, keys and some other instruments from all corners of the room. But as for the history of the band, well….read on….
Formed in 2008 by Lee Lasnon and Paul "Cheese" Good, Liability were originally a 4 piece band including Dave Burrells (bass) and Martin Roberts (Drums). Heavily influenced by bands such as The Levellers, 3 Daft Monkeys and Dropkick Murphys the vision for the band was to create something in the middle of all those bands. Auditions followed for other instruments, such as fiddle, but no additions were ever made to the 4 piece.
Liability made their first appearance, 3 months after forming, at The Inferno in Bournemouth opening the festival. The intentions of the band were quite clear from here on in that they were very energetic performers, with a massive emphasis on stage presence and crowd interaction, and by the end of the gig had everyone on their feet, and some on the tables.
Shortly after bassist Dave left Liability to concentrate on other projects he had been involved with prior to joining the band. Liability chose not to replace Dave and went out as a 3 piece, with Martin moving from drums to percussion and accordian. Lee and Cheese changed from electric to acoustic guitars and the songs were adapated slightly.
Even following the change, nothing was really notibaly different on stage as the performances were just as manic and energised.
A couple of months later Martin left Liability and they went out as a 2 piece, for the first time, later that week.
Since becoming a duo the music of Liability has taken more of a folk/punk route moving from folk/rock and also seemed to catch a song writing bug and started becoming more widely known across the UK.
November 2009 was announces as the last 2009 live performances for Liability and they went out in style playing Joiners in Southampton and supporting 3 Daft Monkeys at Mr Kyps in Poole.
During their break Cheese changed from a 6 string to a 12 string guitar and Liability were busy writing new songs abd making small changes to their current repatoire.
They hit 2010 with a huge bang starting live on radio with a performance and interview and gigs in Winchester, Guildford, Oxford, Bournemouth and London along with a gig supporting, Canadian touring artist, David Celia booked.
Liability also announced they were starting to record their album, "We Danced And We Played", which has been attracting record label interest and will be due for release mid 2010. As well as this, Liability confirmed they would be working closly with solo artist Tim Somerfield throughout 2010.
Another break was announced in 2010, with April being the month off of choice, for the band to 'detox' and concentrate on writing some new material, and gig offers are coming through rapidly for the 2nd half of the year.
Before another break though, Liability again went out in style comparing Shudder Festuval, in aid of Cancer Research UK, at Chords in Poole. Liability were asked to introduce every band, play inbetween every other band and basically do whatever was required to keep the crowd going. Liability were a huge success, with their fan base growing 60% in the 2 weeks after the show and really got the crowd going before introducing acts such as MC Lars and Zebrahead.
