pronounced the same. but people incorrectly say it like (rhymes with toe) choe-choe. it's shu-shu. dialogue near the intro says her name is an homage to what classical composer claude debussy affectionately nicknamed his daughter. his music is used throughout the film (aside from takeshi kobayashi and salyu's own music) and thought to be the original personification of ether, and that "lily must have listened to him in the womb"

your messages made me think deeper about what I initially saw happening on the screen lol; i thought the movie was an alienating drag at times and it was often difficult to empathize with the characters and what happened to them, which, I think, is part of the point the director was getting at (how routine violence and abuse was brushed off and normalized by the silence, indifference and self-absorption), but which still felt sort of underwhelming for me. Having said that, it's inevitable that all of us would have something to relate to in this movie (whether that be the isolating, faceless feeling of the internet and shared interest online communities or something else) , and aesthetically, it's really one of a kind. and yeah, the beautiful music and things like this thread make my thoughts return to it and realize there's much, much more to it than what catches the eye first. thanks for the discussion!

it's not the original fanmade lilyphilia bbs pre-2010 which was mostly in english but some jp. black + green like the movie but unfortunately usage died out due to obscurity

Does anyone know what's going on with Spotify showing some "new singles" featuring Lily Chou-Chou? I see one called Mirror Of Life by Levorica, other called Ether by snoo_pingas, and a mini album called Sunday Morning by Levorica again. Are those just credited samples? I thought Lily Chou-Chou stopped as a project in 2010.
