Biography
Short of a better and more fitting name, Brighton based singer/songwriter Ivar Lira and London based producer Mikkelsen have so far worked together using the Lira / Mikkelsen moniker.
The duo's work is typically (self)identified as and associated with tags like “Chillwave”, “Glo-Fi” and “Downtempo”. The extent to which such tags apply is debatable - and ultimately not very interesting - but suffice to say that Lira/Mikkelsen’s work is borne out of a mutual appreciation of 80s Synth Pop, which manifests itself in their hooky melodies and deliberately simple song structures.
In production terms, Lira/Mikkelsen’s work does however move well beyond the often cold, dry and austere qualities of early Synth Pop in favour of a much warmer, lusher and texturally richer sound that draws on Pop (without shame) and Electronica in equal measure.
Two tracks in, productivity has been increased considerably and a new track is currently in the pipeline – expected time of release is late summer / early autumn 2014.
