Lorraine Klaasen, is the daughter of the famous South African singer, Tandie Klaasen.
She was born and raised in South Africa but Montreal has been her home for over two decades. Since her own début, Lorraine's dynamic stage presence and highly effective showmanship have captivated jazz and African music lovers all over North America, the Caribbean and Europe for years.
Lorraine Klaasen is a virtual embodiment of cultural diversity. She sings in several languages such as English, French, Swahili, Zulu, Xhosa, Lingala, Greek and Hebrew, not to mention over twelve African dialects, however in the last few years, she limits it to four languages.
Musicologist, singer but also choreographer, Klaasen knows how to show emotion through movements and gestures of her dances, a very distinctive expression of African song. Her productions present the finest African rhythms, rendered by her homeland. Living in Canada and playing with musicians from the Caribbean, Haiti and Quebec has enlarged her music.
Klaasen's upbeat musical style manages to embrace a myriad of cultures at once.
