Biography

The music of Lunar Event lives somewhere between the extremes: light and dark, comfort and disquiet. For half a decade now it has thrived on the edge of things–stylishly walking the line between the analog past and the digital future.
The band began as an electronic duo composed of Derek Osgood and
Gwynneth Hermann
. It didn't take long for the band to make an impression with its unique take on modern electronic dance music. Marrying the cool, pulsating beats of acts like Massive Attack, The Chemical Brothers, and New Order with the guitar rush of such bands as My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Curve turned into a head-turning feat. Critical acclaim for their masterful debut album This Transparency came quickly and from all corners, positioning the band at the forefront of modern, intelligent music in the Midwest.

With the addition of Jonathan Harmon (guitar) and Drew Reed (drums), Lunar Event expanded their sound immensely, with deeper textures and sonic variation. Live drums, more guitar, and new emphasis on emotion over concept have brought the band into a new "phase".

On February 11th, 2006
Gwynneth Hermann
performed her last show with the band. Osgood, Harmon and Reed went into Indianapolis' Queensize Studios to record four new tracks without Hermann. The results were good.. if not great, and was the first time the band used outside producers (Vess Ruhtenberg/LonPaul Ellrich). On February 18th, Osgood and Reed traveled to Hollywood, California to master those tracks with Dave Collins (No Doubt, Madonna), and are now shopping to labels.

Mike Shimmercore (bass/keyboards) was added to lineup to solidify Lunar Event's new beginning. March of 2006 finds the band rehearsing new material, as well as reworking the old favorites. This spring and summer will be the band's busiest time ever. Multi-week U.S. tours are being scheduled for June and July, and will be the first time Lunar Event plays either coast.

Lunar Event still inhabit the space between life's extremes, but never has the space seemed so exciting and filled with potential. Their new sound is all things powerful, emotional and thoughtful. The future proves to be bright for Lunar Event.

Gwynneth's new band can be found at yuki (meow).

Derek, Mike, John and Drew's new band can be found at red light driver.
