Biography
Mads Mouritz Gjellerod is a Danish singer, guitarist, and composer who has worked as a solo act and in a number of bands since the late 1990s.
In 1982, the 6 year old Mads was put on the stage to play piano at the annual spring concert held by the local music school in Holstebro on the West Coast of Denmark. He had only been attending the school for a few months and because he couldn't read sheet music, he decided to play a song of his own. A little simple tune called "The water runs".
20 years later, Mouritz was still writing his own songs. He now plays guitar and sings, and he has marked himself as a great solo performer and an important figure on the Scandinavian singer/songwriter scene. He has worked as the composer on several theatre and film projects including the documentary "Stupid Love" that was broadcasted on national Danish television channel DR1. During the last year he has been giving a great amount of concerts including SPOT 08 festival (DK) and the Kashmir Klub (UK). In October and November this year he his booked for gigs in Boston and Los Angeles
Mouritz's songs on his album "this chaos called love" from 2004 are not like the works of a "typical" singer and songwriter. It would actually be more correct to call him a singer and lyric-interpreter, because most of his songs are made in collaboration with the American poet, Clarice Scott. Mouritz and Scott had been working as a team for three years by that time. Listening to the songs it becomes apparent that they are a perfect match.
He is currently working as part of the Mouritz/Hørslev Projektet (The Mouritz/Hørslev project) a musical collaboration with poet/author Lone Hørslev.
