Biography

Based on Long Island's East End, Mambo Loco can be found anywhere from summertime dance hot spots to major cultural festivals and events to the venerable Stephen Talkhouse and beyond. Together for four years, they are rapidly becoming known all over the tri-state area for their fiery Latin rhythms, spicy Salsa and unabashed affection for the torrid Tango.

Brentwood, NY native Larry Belford, conga and lead vocal, has performed with The Bad Street Boys, Grupo Facinacion, Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Rodriguez and the legendary Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. On keyboards, melodica and vocals, Berklee graduate Bill Smith performed with Monty Alexander, Blood Sweat & Tears, Dr. John and was a member of the influential ska/reggae band, The Skatalites. Puerto Rico native Alfredo Gonzalez on trombone, violin, percussion and vocals, backed The Salsa Cats as a member of Orquesta Mulenze, and in NYC performed with Manny Oquendo y Conjunto Libre. Berklee alumnus and band leader Wayne Burgess (bass and vocals) is a longtime pro who has performed with The Drifters, The Coasters, Johnny Martinez Orquesta and Billy Ekstine.
Mambo Loco performs an impressive array of Latin classics which originated in Puerto Rico and Cuba during the golden age of the 1940s to the 1960s. The rhythms run the gamut from danzon and bolero to guajira and mambo. They can be reached at (631) 745-5335 or their website at www.mamboloco.com.
