I agree with the person who said there's still angst. This and TIMTTMY have a different kind of angst to the rage fuelled spit of the Richey era. This one finds angst through desperation and loss. The guitars are still loud and in your face too albeit, on the downside, it encumbers everything and drowns out the other instruments. Also, lyrically, it has themes that Wire would put into words a lot better when TIMTTMY came out.
