On the contrary, I think this sounds exactly like Mastodon. In fact they're one of the few bands to ever "go commercial" whilst retaining their creative identity. [2]

This is the best "catchy" song Mastodon have ever done. I agree with ngk44; Mastodon are one of the few artists to ever make their music "poppier" without ending up sounding like a completely different artist in the process.

damn fun and catchy track with a wicked vid, the tripped-out booty queen psychedelia in the end was hilarious. it's stuff like this that reassures me that they've still got the magic that got me hooked on their first albums - albeit i still wish their Neurosis-influences would resurface more dominantly at some point.

Bring back Mother Puncher I say. Remove the twerking from videos and stop with the harmonised sing-along choruses.

Check out the statistics for the other songs - the so called decline is the same. Therefore your claim is invalid.

Every time a new album is released the number of Last.Fm scrobbles in the statistics increases greatly then declines, it has nothing to do with this song being a "catchy pop song"

To the "Strider" that calls people "douches", of course the song is not going to be played without guitars, but it would probably be pointless to start a debate about song structures with such an illuminated individual. Let the words speak for themselves. I'm not a Mastodon die-hard fan, but I was merely disappointed to see how a conventional composition like this one could appeal to so many. Luckily, like so many pop songs, it had an initial burst, and a sudden decline, judging by the number of initial sccrobles and the decreasing song statistics. Does that prove anything? Maybe that "The Motherload" is not going to stick as a Mastodon all-time classic
