that's a depressing tune. though it's emotions that we don't really consider a person who's going to ultimately and very soon suffer from capital punishment and die. Maybe there last wishes are as simple as this, perhaps, they want more? Many people don't change, some do. and it's just interesting to note. I am for capital punishment myself, but that is a fairly good point in the song.

Merle is the man. interestingly, the Grateful Dead a wonderful cover of this song back in the late '60's and early '70's.
