Biography
Mike Neer has been playing music for almost 40 years, yet only began playing steel guitar in 2002.
Inspired by the Hawaiian sounds he'd heard early in his life and by the great slide playing of Ry Cooder, he began his journey into the world of steel guitar by listening to anything he could wrap his ears around.
Mike is a former member of New York's The Moonlighters, with whom he recorded one CD, entitled "Surrender". With The Moonlighters, Mike had an opportunity to explore the earliest styles of Hawaiian steel guitar, particularly Sol Hoopii, Dick McIntire, Andy Iona and Bob Nichols, and will always keep those sounds with him.
Today, he plays electric steel guitar in a variety of styles as a freelancer and as a member of The Jack Grace Band, an original "Weirdo Country" band. He's also investigating the possibilities with pedal steel guitar.
