nothing wrong with digging this record but if you really “don’t get the hate” for it your clown shoes are in that box over there

I don't get the issue with this album, really. And by extension, I don't get the issue with any 80s Miles albums: if anything, they're the evolution of the late 60s-into the mid 70s Fusion works he made, albeit in a more accessible way (which is exactly what he wanted). With "You're Under Arrest" most people remember it for the Michael Jackson and Cindy Lauper covers, but this record should be remembered for more than that: it's Pop, it's experimental, it's still Miles.

miles is really washed up here, almost like bela lugosi in the 60s so unrecognisable its almsot a new star!

I might have to turn in my Cool Person card but by god I really like this one. Don't get the hate at all.

One of my favorites. It's far from what most people think of when they think of Jazz, but so are a lot of the other Miles albums that, unlike this one, get all sorts of respect and praise from critics and listeners both. Here Miles is continuing his pursuit of something new and different, always testing the boundaries and seeing what he can do with his music; this one has a very urban, funky, somewhat nocturnal vibe to it; Darryl Jones really shines on the bass on this one, and as always it's a pleasure to hear John McLaughlin play with Miles on tracks 4-6, which are highlights (well, "Katia Prelude" is less than a minute and as its name implies basically just an intro to the ~8 minute "Katia"); "Mrs. Morrisine" in particular has a cinematic, nighttime-in-the-city vibe to it that I really like-- funky and with a bit of a Reggae feel to it as well. Miles does some of his best playing of the latter part of his career on "Human Nature" and "Time After Time." Excellent, overlooked record.

Very much overlooked piece of 80's miles. Yes, it has the beautiful renditions of "Human Nature" and "Time After Time", but hell if "Ms.Morrisine", "Katia" and "You're Under Arrest" ain't some funky ass fusion.
