Biography

Introducing Minnikin; four guys from Newcastle (UK) bringing forth a mixture of melodic hard rock and grunge combined with unique lyrical backgrounds which offer a new and exciting sound. Thunderous drums, chunky guitars, pounding bass, cut-through vocals and ethereal layered harmonies are only just a few ways to describe the sound experience. From acoustic ballads to kick-ass rock epics they offer pure listening enjoyment and an exciting live performance.

From 2005, Minnikin have been progressing dramatically as fine young musicians to produce music that is true to themselves. This is very apparent upon listening to the bands debut album ‘Europa’ which keeps driving through relentlessly like a runaway freight train. Minnikin are currently promoting the album at live shows and making a following on the web, and so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Minnikin have held #1 spot on AudioStreet.net for 7 days with ‘Thousand Apologies’ as well as featured on national television. Minnikin produced their own demo in 2006 and independently sold over 100 copies over just a few shows, only through generating a vast interest from audiences. Following this success, they now have produced their own album, due for release in 2008, and are now preparing the promotional tactics to launch themselves in the spotlight.

Minnikin is the result of a project of forming a band with only the select young musicians from the north-east of England. A mainstay of the group, Marc Playle (AOG Guitar Idol 2008 Finalist), proved that despite being born without a forearm, sheer determination to learn to play the guitar to an exceptional virtuosic level, was not a hurdle he was willing to crawl under. This prompted a great interest from the media, including features on Local News on ITV, Richard & Judy on Channel4, national rock radio and articles in international tabloids. This incredible willpower has always proven infectious to the band. Most recently, Minnikin performed for Channel4 in London as part of Orange unsignedAct ’08 with Alex Zane, Lauren Laverne and Kelly Osbourne.

Marc and bassist Glenn Minnikin through the years have developed profound recording and production skills similar to that of a professional working studio. This has enabled them to produce a release-quality record for Minnikin, ‘Europa’. Singer Richard ‘Dox’ Docherty (Live & Unsigned 2008 Finalist) is involved with the Prince’s Trust, volunteering his services as a musician to help guide young people to a successful career path in music. Drummer Ben Mummery has always been a permanent fixture in the local music scene, promoting local artists as well as himself by adapting to many styles of music.

Minnikin’s main career goal is to develop what they have achieved so far and produce an act like no other. They have very firm ground to accomplish a high status in the industry, and to retain the determination to carry this out and overcome the most difficult of obstacles. From the sheer power of the song writing to the epic live shows, Minnikin have what it takes to become an incredible feature act in the ever changing rock industry.
