Biography

Bi-coastal and bilingual, Miranda Joan was born in Montréal and raised in Vancouver. Both the
English and French Canadian cultures have left their mark on her artistry. Growing up in the
Pacific Northwest, Miranda Joan grew passionate about the sights and sounds of the
landscape, which continue to be an influential force in her songwriting. Coupled with a love of
soul music and its many shades, Miranda Joan finds herself somewhere in-between genres
along the edges of jazz, singer/songwriter and soul.
She began her studies in Montréal at Concordia University's Jazz Studies program, ultimately
completing her BFA in music in the Jazz Vocal Performance program at The City College of
New York in 2015.
Miranda Joan has performed in festivals across Canada and the US including the Montréal Jazz
Festival, Songs at Mirror Lake, Lake Placid NY, and Vancouver’s Harmony Arts Festival. Since
moving to New York she has performed at venues such as the Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall,
Joe’s Pub, and C’mon Everybody, has performed for Sofar Sounds on numerous shows as well
as hosted an episode MVYRadio’s Hot Seat. Miranda Joan’s passion for songwriting has
evolved beyond her own artistic expression and has included community involvement, most
prominently as a songwriting mentor with kids at the non-profit SAY: the Stuttering Association
for The Young.
