For some, spiritual and artistic evolution are subtle, gradual things. Others experience a sudden awakening as a curtain opens on a whole new self. It has been said that naming oneself is the first act of the poet and the revolutionary. During a period of accelerated growth, Mista White did just that. Discarding conformity and pretention, there came a new man of intelligence, artistic vision, social responsibility and fierce self determination.
Mista White is a multimedia artist with a free, improvisational, DIY spirit, who believes in the Democratization of art, and strives to free it of corporate constraint. Artists always work with the materials available to them and Mista White finds himself awash in cultural data, the most plentiful resource of our time. Being, by nature, a storyteller as well as an architect of sound, he experiments with found audio to create a context for his own sonic meditations, responding to the world with an emotional reply through musical performance and composition. By dramatizing social and political events and recontextualizing them, Mista White creates an opportunity for us to have a visceral and intimate experience of otherwise intellectual issues. With humour, outraqe, and ingenuity, Mista White creates music that is never merely entertaining, but highly individual, unpredictable, and rewarding.
Mista White's music supercedes traditional genre barriers to encompass elements of Hip Hop, electronica, ambient, trance, acoustic balladry, punk, and noise rock, as well as political commentary and performance art. Utilizing intimate song writing, digital programming, pre-existing audio, and live instrumentation, even going so far as to remix actual U.S. Senate hearings and the 2000 Inauguration, he pursues his muse through the minefiled of the modern American psyche. And did I mention? You can dance to it.
