Doom metal/Traditional metal/Classic metal band from Eastern Connecticut
Mourn the Light is a Traditional Heavy Metal/Doom band from Norwich, CT. Formed in late 2017 by New England Stoner and Doom Fest co-founder Dwayne Eldredge and Bury The Needle radio host Gregory Gates, MTL quickly made their presence known with the three-track EP Weight of the World. Featuring artwork by renowned doom scene artist "Caveman" Kyle Stratton, Weight of the World was well-received by critics. Riff Relevant said the short debut "made an incredible mark," and Alternative Control called it "immediately catchy, with sing-able choruses and guitar riffs that incorporate just the right amount of unpredictability."
MTL's live debut as a band soon followed, but Gates then relocated to North Carolina. While solidifying a new lineup, MTL released the single "Carry the Flame" in late 2018. They have also refined their stage show, recently finishing a month-long residency at Strange Brew Pub in Norwich. In March, the band embarks on their first US tour with stops in CT, DE, OH, WI, IL, TX, TN, and NC – including a performance at the SX Stoner Jam 19 in Austin. Following the tour, MTL will be playing at the 2nd Annual New England Stoner and Doom Fest in early May. The band continued their momentum teaming up with Boston's Oxblood Forge for a split EP that included 2 new songs, a piano version of "Carry the Flame" featuring guest Sean "Orc" Adams (Virus of Ideals, Orcumentary) and a cover of the Candlemass classic "Bewitched" with a guest solo from Joey Concepcion (Sanctuary, The Absence). The band has completed the recording of their first full length album at Studio Wormwood with Producer/Engineer Dave Kaminsky with a release TBA. Following the recording of the full length Mourn the Light have expanded their lineup with the addition of Kieran Beaty on 2nd guitar and backing vocals to bring every nuance of their sound to life in the bands live performances.
Candlemass, Night Demon, Haunt, Swallow the Sun, Katatonia, Savatage, and Kings X are just some of the bands MTL counts as influences – but they do not let genre expectations define the music they create. With their distinctive sound and indomitable work ethic, Mourn the Light will continue to deliver a unique mark upon the metal landscape for years to come.
