I love Myrkur, but I'm not sure "Spine" has quite hit the mark for me. It's a nice album, but I was instantly drawn to Mareridt and Folkesange, while Spine was just an okay album to listen to and nothing really stood out for me apart from the title song. It feels a bit uninspired to me, and the mastering seems weird at times. Maybe it'll grow on me more though.

How did Myrkur go from making good Ulver pastiche to just being Nordic Lana Del Rey?

Are you talking about Spine specifically? Because the further you go back in her discography the more black metal elements you'll find

Новый стафф хуета какая то честно говоря. Фолк альбом был просто идеален, и превосходил во многом DCD. Блэчинский был норм. А новые два сингла не внушили доверия, просто дефолтный гоф рок.

It's a soundtrack for a play, it wasn't written to be listened to as an album. That being said, I'm glad it got full release.

Rumor that her upcoming album is going back to metal sound. I would love to have more songs like Mareridt and Ulvinde!

Well the new single just dropped and it is most definitely NOT black metal. Very much goth/post-punk.

Rumors remained rumors. The new single is very much pop post-punk something. Kinda talented but not the kind of music that made people love Myrkur.

Well, I complained about her because I never liked Burzum in the first place and it's a mistake to copy hipstersofem when it comes to black metal. But I think she is much better than Burzum at the moment. She makes high definition music that is more in line with the pagan spirit than Varg's nerdycore Atari Dungeons & Dragons ambience ever could.

cope is real. yes, myrkur is white and overrated, but feminist? to me she looks more like a frail, male role model than an icon empowering women, as you know nowadays women do not have to undernourish themselves with caloric-restriction diets to fit into stereotypical artificial social roles, and she did not do anything that went against the grain, i mean traditional white pagan music for obedient tradwifes, i wouldn't be surprised if she came out as terf.although her appearance reminds me of Cunt Grishnackh in his prime heyday, she can compose music in the vein and vision of Varg Viggernes, as he has always wished to do , but lack of musical talent was an obstacle to the fulfillment of his dream,I mean,he even bought on amazon the same pagan lyre that she used.I agree that there are still many underrated female metal musicians, the black French Audrey Ebrotié is one of my favorites. https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Diary_of_Destruction/3540271046 she has also band named Ian will.

thousands of bands out there playing neofolk/dark folk/pagan folk featured female vocalists, like Rúnahild, Helisir, Cesair, Emian, Eliwagar, etc, and they aren't really obscure... by extension many ethereal/darkwave/neoclassical projects also share similarities with myrkur, despite having less pagan music influence (and more other influences instead).. for example Narsilion, Trobar de morte, Daemonia Nymphe.. just to name a few..

Can anyone recommend me any similar artists to her atmospheric dark folk songs? I love Mausoleum.

Burzum after Filosofem (1996), is the closest artist to early Myrkur. She also admitted the influence. But hey what do I know ! I have only scrobbled 14 thousands different artists in the last years.

I realize this is an over a year old comment, but I just wanted to say how funny I think this is. Because the kvltists who complained about her tend to be big Burzum fans as well. And the same thought came across to me. Burzum's album "Fallen" has some catchy poppy folksy melodies and clean vocals layered onto black metal instrumentals, similar to what Myrkur was hated for doing.

Haven't listened to Myrkur since M dropped. Folkesange is so much better than the other albums since it dropped the black metal, though Mareidt actually did have 1 competent black metal song, with great riffs, but Folkesange is just a way better album than Mareidt.

yeah it's great that she dropped BM, we totally suffer from "chicks in folk music" insufficiency

She does folk quite well, better than a lot of others. We really don’t need pop bitches ruining black metal though. If she adds black metal back in, it’s definitely gotta have a wow factor that wasn’t there in previous albums, except for Folkessange

Good to hear that she wants to stop with black metal. She was never black metal anyway. Folk Metal Stuff suits her voice much better.

I love the folk stuff (most of which isn't dark?) but I also really like the black metal stuff so I hope she keeps it eclectic

Folkesange is so ethereal; I just cannot get enough. I genuinely think Myrkur excels at this particular genre much more than the black metal stuff as much as there's some gems in the back catalogue, Folkesange is too solid of an album to ignore. I'm already wondering what more we can expect from her.

I haven't listened to this project due to trve black metal memes I saw like four years ago but now I'm going to let go of my prejudice and give it a listen

I'm honestly very disappointed. not hating, if you like it then more power to you, but to me her first full length seemed to be somewhat uninspired, lacking progression and failing to keep me excited. when the first bm riff came in I was like oohhh lets gooooo but my excitement fizzled out pretty quickly in the monotony of the record. there are some really nice atmospheric cuts which i liked only then followed by kinda generic riffs that were mixed in a really weird way... felt weird listening to an album that had potential but lacked a sense of direction

Same opinion here. I admit that I am one of the people from the "haters section" but I gave it a listen after the surrounding hype. I am not impressed. Here and there are some nice moments where you think "Yeah, not it becames interesting." But there is absolut no consistency in the music. A lot of Ideas mixed up, no clear direction and in parts very uninspired. Together with her former life as Fashionmodel and Popstar and absout zero Metal-Background this project still smells after sell out.

Better than Chelsea Wolfe. Jokes aside, I found Myrkur somewhat boring at the beginning and it really took time to discover how talented she is. I like the way she mixes different approaches, be it classical music, (black) metal, folk or pop. A true artist who dares to break the boundaries and does it in a very unique way.

I liked Folkesange, production is great, atmosphere is great. Really calmed me down at a time we all need calming down. But I was hoping at least one black metal or post-black metal track. Or even Acoustic Black Metal but done non-ironically (i.e. Dornenreich).
