Listened to Eons for the first time in about a year and strange. The first 5 times I've listened to this album, the fusion of drone metal and free jazz seemed more balanced. Listening to it again, and I realized it never was metal, it was always jazz influenced by metal. I'd love to hear them add more metal into the mix, but add the same time, having dark big band (but not really) music is just exciting. While I still need to fully dive into free jazz, instead of just dipping my toe in, from what I have heard. The Coltrane and Sun Ra influence is extremely apparent. I'm really hoping they release a new album instead of just countless live albums (live albums for jazz are always very different experiences, but some new material would be nice).

Pretty good stuff, it's full of unique movements, has a great sense of tone color/timbre and it's rhythmically diverse so it manages to just steal away your attention for the entire 2 hours which is impressive in itself. It's not exactly breaking all-new ground, admittedly it retreads a lot of what's been done before, whether we're talking more recent acts like Pastorius, Yoshihide or Zorn, or the classics like Coltrane, Ayler, Sanders and obviously Sun Ra, even Mingus to a lesser extent. Plus, mixing metal with jazz isn't exactly the newest gimmick in town, but it shows real potential to what can be done by blending metal compositions with the arrangements and instrumentation of big band jazz, so one can't help but respect the ambition.
