Biography
1) NEW DISEASE were formed in Spring 2002 in London UK by ex-TRICKY/MISSION guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite and vocalist Lee Bane.
"GARY NUMAN heard some of my demos back in late 2001 and he suggested we collaborate on some of them for a side project. This project never materialised but it sowed the seed in my head for starting a new band", reveals Mark on the auspicious beginnings of new kids on the alt-rock block, NEW DISEASE. After collaborating with Numan on reworkings of 'Are Friends Electric?' and 'This Wreckage' for Numan's 'RIP' single/'Hybrid' remixes album (2002), it was time for Mark to concentrate on New Disease with vocalist Bane, ex-WILDHEARTS drummer Ritch Battersby and bassist Richard Adams (QUEEN ADREENA).
Outstanding gigs with H.I.M, PRONG, SERAFIN and SKID ROW cemented the band's reputation as an awesome live unit. New Disease chose to collaborate with producer John Fryer (N.I.N, Stabbing Westward. H.I.M) on the AXIOMATIC EP (released in 2003).
"We're a hard band to pigeonhole… we're too melodic for some metal fans, too heavy for some mainstream rock fans, and too commercial for some alternative fans, but there you go - you can't please all the people all of the time" (GileZ Moorhouse: ROCK SOUND MAGAZINE UK 2003).
In May 2003 the band played sold-out shows with H.I.M, as well as being voted as an outstanding new talent on Music Industry Resource www.HITQUARTERS.com. New Disease returned to the studio in Fall 2003 to record with Top Canadian producer David Bottrill (most known for his work with TOOL, also Godsmack, MudVayne, Muse and Peter Gabriel).. In October 2003 the band announced the addition of new drummer Eddie Stratton (formerly of V2 recording artists ONE MINUTE SILENCE).
Spring 2004 saw the inclusion of a previously unreleased version of New Disease track 'Song of one word' - mixed and produced by david Bottrill - included on the April METAL HAMMER Razor compilation cover CD, alongside tracks by Amen, Killswitch Engage and Fear Factory..
In May 2004 NEWDISEASE followed the critical success of 'Axiomatic' with 'Like Rain' - a new single through Universal records in May 2004, recorded and produced by David Bottrill (Tool, Godsmack, Muse). The single was backed with 'Dirty Blood' in the UK, featuring guest vocals by Angela Murrell (of STEREO MC's). Released both in the USA via Universal and in UK on CD and limited edition 7" vinyl; it was playlisted on numerous US rock radio stations and scored the band their first UK top 100 chart position, enjoying airplay on BBC RADIO 1, XFM, and video rotation on UK Music TV and playlisted on a score of regional UK radio stations.
After speanding some time working on a debut album with David Botrill, the band split towards the end of 2004 citing communication issues. Some of the tracks intended for the album and various other things have made their way outside the band.
