Newman Sound Men's Choir was formed in 2005 by Kellie Walsh, David Chafe, and Douglas Dunsmore. It takes its name from a beautiful, rugged part of Terra Nova National Park, Newfoundland & Labrador. A community choir comprising over forty singers, Newman Sound attracts increasingly large audiences and has acquired an impressive local and national reputation.
Newman Sound has met with significant success in the CBC national Choral Competition, receiving the 2006 Galaxie Rising Star award for Most Promising New Choir in Canada, and competing in the 2008 finals. The choir supports charitable and community events, such as its own free Valentine's Day concerts at seniors' homes throughout St. John's. Newman Sound also encourages younger singers by inviting high school students to join the group in concert each Father's Day weekend.
Newman Sound has built an eclectic repertoire across the genres of classical, pop, and folk music, including exciting, newly-commissioned arrangements and compositions.
