Bo Feierskov, Michael Kolster and his younger brother Carsten have played together since 1983. The repertoire was a confusing cocktail of jazz standards, Nordic folk songs, beat classics, Danish pop songs and a few of their own compositions.

One night in the autumn of 1992 a couple of A&R guys from different Danish record labels turned up check out the trios gig at a Copenhagen club. By the next day, Nice Little Penguins were signed by Replay Records (an independent label). The band recorded its first album “Beat Music”. The reviews were fantastic, and “Rain Keeps On Falling” became the bands first hit single. To help in the recording of the next album, the band invited the guitarist Boi Holm and the keyboard player H.H. Præstbro. Among the record demos there was an old song that Michael had written ten years before named “Flying”. The song was recorded with a ukulele in a very poor shape and a solo part played on ordinary wine glasses. “Flying” was released in a slightly different arrangement and became a massive hit both in Denmark and in several European countries as well as in Asia. Even today, the song is frequently aired all over the world.
