"Tidal" is the ninth track from Noah Kahan's sophomore studio album, Busyhead. He stated the following about the song's inspiration in an Instagram post:
"I once heard a quote about depression that really resonated with me. It described the journey of life as being in a vast ocean, and depression as the sensation of sinking while watching those around you swimming with ease, forward towards the coastline to some great peace within. I wanted to write a song about my personal experience with depression, but I wanted to write it using metaphors that I believe really bring the desperation of it all to life. “Tidal” is the story of accepting that while you might not be able to swim right now, you can learn to float."
