Biography
Tom Voelk is the automotive specialist for NorthWest Cable News. He's been a car nut since he was four when his neighbor brought home the first Mustang delivered in Minnesota. He was scolded by his Driver's Ed teacher for driving like his idol Mario Andretti. A 15-year veteran at KING TV in Seattle, Tom has produced auto specials and segments for the last 10 years.
The cars on Driving Northwest are reviewed within their respective price and segment class. In other words, a Kia Rio is not held to the same standards of power, handling and refinement as a Mercedes S Class. The vehicles are provided by the manufacturers. They have no input on Tom's editorial opinion and the reviews are independent. He does his best to review the cars people are interested in so e-mail him at drivingnw@nwcn.com with your requests.
Tom's accolades include multiple Emmy Awards for reporting, writing, editing and photography. He has also won the Iris Award, and several Gracie Awards and Best of the West Awards. When he's not poring over owner's manuals, he can be found at a Mariners game with his wife and two kids, off on a long run, or looking for the latest Chevron Car. He owns every single one. Oh, and he finally got to meet Mario Andretti.
