Biography
Denver’s OKO TYGRA is the dark and dreamy creation of intrepid Denver songwriter, Joshua Novak. After suffering an accident that left him with a head injury and threatened his life, Novak came to the conclusion that something had to change. Thus, OKO TYGRA was born. The new band has more than hinted at their future promise. In their short time together, they headlined their first set of shows and later gained opening slots for acts including GEOGRAPHER, BALLET SCHOOL, SEOUL, CANDY CLAWS, WILD ONES, HEAVENLY BEAT and HIGH ENDS and were also accepted into SXSW and CMJ (the only band from Denver in the 2014 showcase).
OKO TYGRA are releasing a 7’’ vinyl on EggHunt Records in May, which they have committed to tape with Snake Rattle Rattle Snake’s, Wilson Helmericks. The music they make is a nostalgia trip for sure, while sounding totally modern too. The songs evoke British dream-pop pioneers, Cocteau Twins. Westword observed, “…with the hushed and hypnotic songwriting…the band explored the tonal swirl one heard in old Slowdive songs.” Denver Post added, "…brash, polished and immediately commanding attention."
With a tour and a record release on the horizon, OKO TYGRA seem poised to continue on the steady trajectory they’ve created in less than a year’s time. Their introduction into the music world would be legendary by now if it had been in 1984.
