OpalCandy music is the lifework concept of four progressive musicians combining their melodic strengths, multi-textured harmonic imagery and compositional visions to create a musical force that exceeds the sum of their individual parts. The creative dynamic that exists within OpalCandy is derived from the diverse musical backgrounds and intricate musical foresight of each member. The ideas and contributions by the members of OpalCandy results in compositional integrity built by powerful rhythms, soulful melodic interludes and aural interaction and that transfix listeners. Their style of music can only be described as indescribable. All of these factors interlock providing a catalog of all original music. The musical spectrum covered by the styles, tones and grooves of their writings distinguish OpalCandy from all bands in the mainstream today. OpalCandy’s dedication, drive and instrumental prowess provide a foundation by which to Create and perform at an unsurpassed level to command any stage. OpalCandy is reinventing modern alternative rock for the new millennium. OpalCandy truly is groove for the soul.
OpalCandy’s sonic and creative foundation is provided by the vocals and bass of Dave Matsko. Dave is a ten year music veteran with a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition. Dave's musical proficiency and credentials are not only evident on paper, but in practice as well. His inspiration and perspectives come influences deep-rooted from Jazz, Funk, Classical Music and Rock n’ Roll. Dave’s background provides musical versatility, invaluable compositional foresight and raw talent which define him as an individual with one of the sharpest senses of the “musical craft” on the scene today.
OpalCandy’s percussive arsenal and rhythmic onslaught are produced by Jon Miller. He is not only a human metronome, but a purveyor of OpalCandy’s creative and compositional style that feeds the direction of the group . Jon is a co-founder of OpalCandy, sharing the creative credit with Dave Matsko. Jon influences provide him with the all of the best tools to create flavorful combinations of rhythm, time changes and syncopation. Jon’s drumming and rhythmic approach is second to none.
OpalCandy’s harmonic ambience and tonal textures are spearheaded by the six-string artwork of Mike Z. Mike started his musical career at age 5, studying classical piano for 8 years before picking up the guitar. Soon thereafter he began meshing the classical influence with Rock n Roll. Mike began to create and nurture musical ideas that will prove to be timeless and unlike any aural experience that has come before. He has performed with various R&B, Rock, Blues and Pop acts in North Carolina, Ohio and Chicago. In addition to his fleet-fingered, melodic guitar work and dexterity on the keyboard, he possesses the perfect compliment of vocal ability.
OpalCandy is rounded out by the contribution of Chicago native, Chris K. His musical and instrumental development through the years is unorthodox in contrast to the other members of the group. His roots run deep into the heart of Rock. His early passions for a combination of soulful melodies and bone-crunching rock make him the perfect compliment to the other members of OpalCandy.
