Biography
Exene Cervenka & The Original Sinners (or just Original Sinners) is a punk rock band, formed in 2002. Like frontwoman Exene Cervenka's legendary previous band, X, their sound is influenced by country, rock and roll, and blues. Original Sinners marks a return to 77 punk for the founding member of X. Following X's disappearance from music in the late '90s, Cervenka continued to work on solo folk-rock projects, her new band The Knitters, and numerous spoken word performances and albums, including a collaborative effort with Lydia Lunch. In 2002, Cervenka, along with ex-Distillers members Kim Chi (bass, vocals) and drummer Mat Young, as well as Sam Soto and Exene's husband Jason Edge on guitars, released the Original Sinners' first self-titled LP on Nitro Records. The band is a potent brew of trademark X elements — discordant vocal harmonizing, a preoccupation with love gone wrong, aggressive delivery — and the alt-country of X side-project the Knitters with surf beats as well as the hardcore punk guitar of The Distillers.
